SMASH was this season’s fresh and exciting new pilot. It had everything going for it, including Glee’s fan base, original music, a sharp focus, and plenty of drama. A few weeks ago, it was NBC’s bright, shining light.
But look at the show now. Not even ten episodes in, the show is experiencing a major identity crisis. It’s almost as if it’s trying to become Glee, trying to forget who the characters are, and focus on too many different aspects of musical theatre - and is not succeeding.

One of my favorite new shows to hit television this season has been Up All Night. I’ve wanted to write about it for a long time, but I never can really settle with just a recap. Finally, though, I realized what issue needs to be addressed with Up All Night: their popularity. While the show brings in solid ratings, most people still believe the program should be bumped from NBC’s Thursday night line up. I, however, will fight for Up All Night because I disagree. Up All Night might differ slightly from their line up, but no shows on the lineup are all too similar to each other.
Here at last is a show that brings in a slightly older and younger audience and manages to combine parenthood, work, and growing up to make a hilarious half hour program. Up All Night deserves their time slow and is - sadly - underestimated, unknown, and underrated. More people need to give it a chance. If they did, they would find a dynamic and entertaining show.

On February 18th, Maya Rudolph did exactly what other SNL alumni do when they come back: they admit that they miss SNL. “I am so happy to be back here with at SNL with all my friends, my SNL family,” Alumna Maya Rudolph said in her monologue. “It is a dream come true to be hosting.” And it is a dream come true to see Ms. Rudolph back on stage, charming as ever, for every Saturday Night Live fan as well.

Television. For many critics, it is a somewhat useless medium. I could not agree less. True, it is not classical art or theatre. But while television might not be “art” in the traditional sense, what it exudes is much more compelling and more important to today’s world than classical art.

Was it just me, or was 30 Rock awesome yesterday? It was like 30 Rock with a karate kick and I liked it. Conflict took center stage and the way it shaped the characters brought out humor and, well, a sophisticated story line.

Granted I might not be the best judge of this CW drama, but here I go after just eleven episodes. And what became clear to me in the pilot was that if anything, The Secret Circle was clever mix of The Vampire Diaries and Twilight. Perhaps some other show was added in there as well. The Secret Circle is one heck of an addicting show, but it’s been done before and it’s really nothing new.

Yes, yes, I know. This show is meant for teenagers. I am not a teenager (although barely out of the phase). I discovered this ABC Family show after seeing all those commercials on hulu. It looked good enough, and I love cliche things to just pass the time (Hey, Pauline Kael would approve!), so I started the series. And what I found wasn’t half bad.

This past Thursday’s episode of 30 Rock showed viewers one thing: 30 Rock has fell into a routine, much like a middle aged couple. I’d say good job, but I want to hold back on that. I don’t want 30 Rock to find their groove because that’s not what a show like 30 Rock is about. After a rocky first half of the season, what i want of the show is somewhere between a stable routine and quirky, hilarious humor that the show was built on. Their exploration of the show’s boundaries might have temporarily stopped in the past episode, but viewers are looking for more from 30 Rock this season.
